Have you marketed and promoted attendance and sponsorship for an organizer of trade shows, conferences, hosted-buyer meetings or for a magazine or association? Do you have skills managing print, creating direct mail, writing and executing email promotion, creating and managing event websites, and using social media?
Have you worked for a conference, trade show or media company like
Reed, Penton, Advanstar, VNU, Nielsen, IIR, IQPC, WBR, SRI or AMA? Or
maybe you worked for a small/medium-sized company where all the
marketing got done by you? If you know how to make promotions happen
from start to finish, how to write, and you know business, let's talk. As a marketing pro, you'll have
your hands in every step of the marketing process, helping us grow as
you work with smart, dedicated people doing great things for
our customers.
The talented person who'll fill this position will:
- Execute Promotion of Conferences and Events to Attendees and Sponsors
- Drive Attendee Registrations with Promotion in all Media
- Create Sponsorship Sales Promotion
You'll be responsible for executing all the marketing to bring in attendees and sponsors, using online, print, web, email, PR, social media, smoke signals, viral marketing, bacterial marketing and anything else you can think of. Some design skills are required, and a good Rolodex of designers is a plus.
You MUST have experience and skills in:
- Print promotion, including successful production of collateral and brochures, writing
copy, creating concepts, and working with a designer to get pieces from
start to finish,
- Email marketing, meaning you can write, create, design and send email blasts. This is a function you will complete on your own.
- Planning and managing a marketing calendar. You'll lay out the entire marketing cycle, start to finish, and keep it on track and on schedule. If it needs to happen, you'll need to make it happen,
- Graphic Design. You must be comfortable executing print, mail and web promotions. Though you won't be the designer of our promotions, you'll need to be able to update, modify, and maintain existing layouts.
- Direct mail, meaning you can write, create, and conceptualize direct mail campaigns, select and acquire lists, and work with outside designers and vendors to get direct mail out the door from start to finish,
- Website maintenance, meaning you can update and change an existing site on your own.

Have you sold trade show space, advertising, or other media?
If
you've sold for Reed, Advanstar, Penton, Nielsen, Pennwell, Cygnus,
IIR, IQPC, Crain, ALM or other B2B media companies, if you've sold
advertising space or broadcast time, Yellow Pages, or if you're a
skilled B2B salesperson who can bring your talents to bear for any great
product, then this may be for you.
You'll identify prospects and build your database of leads. You must be able to qualify and build your pipeline.
You'll
make well-prepared, consultative phone calls to the prospects you've
identified. You may travel to several of our resort hotel events each
year, as well as to competitive industry functions.
Most of our
selling is done on the phone, but we don't believe in boiler rooms here.
Bring your brain, because we value thinking people who know how to
sell. We expect results, and we value intelligence.
2+ years of business-to-business telephone sales experience required, with a strong preference for business media. Sales experience in other BtoB intangibles or services is also relevant.
We're a meetings company, but this is NOT a meeting planningor event production position.
